- European Seas - Our research focuses on the European Seas, primarily the Baltic Sea – the sea that directly borders our Museum
- Collection Research - There are comprehensive collections with the scope marine mammals, fishes, seabirds and coastal birds, marine turtles, crustaceans, coelenterates as well as technical equipment for oceanography und fisheries. Documentation of the collection of the German Oceanographic Museum is based on taxonomy, biogeographical region and historical data.
The aquaria of the German Oceanographic Museum are living collections of biodiversity, document and conserve our natural heritage and form the basis for various researches.
